Dual Fuel Range Cooker With 13amp Plug

Are you a cook at home who enjoys the fast heating control of gas cooktops but wants an electric oven to bake? Find a dual fuel cooker that offers the best of both worlds.

Many experienced home chefs favor gas cooktops for their superior temperature control and ability to use advanced cooking techniques like charring. These powerful stoves are expensive, especially if they require an additional gas connection and an electrician to install them.

What is a 13amp plug?

If you have dual fuel range cooker (also known as a gas and electric oven) then you'll require a suitably rated 13 amp plug. The plug also needs to be wired in the cooker circuit using a competent electrician.

This assures that the current that flows through the plug is secure and not too high, which could create an electrical fire danger. The plug has an electrical fuse that regulates the current. The fuse goes out whenever the current is beyond its capacity, which safeguards the appliance from overload of electricity.

The fuse is listed at 13 amps as indicated on the top of the plug and it indicates the maximum current that the plug is able to pass without causing damage to the appliance or overheating the socket. It is essential to ensure that when replacing fuses, you always use the same rated amps as the original. You run the risk of overheating a socket if you replace a fuse using a different rating.

A 13 amp fuse is likely to be a ceramic one that is extremely robust and able to withstand the high temperatures generated by a range cooker. Ceramic elements are also fire-resistant and is therefore a better option than other kinds.

There are many ways in which a 13 amp plug could be fitted. It may be wired to an existing live socket. the flex is then connected to it by either a screw or a jaw type cord clamp. The clamp must be tightened after the plug is securely pushed into position.

Some plugs will include a wiring diagram on cardboard over the pins. These should be removed prior to connecting the wires. It is essential that the wires be cut to the right length, as leaving them too long can result in them becoming crushed when the plug cover is replaced. The earth wire must be the longest one to ensure that it is connected prior to the line and neutral pins.

How do I install an outlet with 13amps?

The vast majority dual fuel range cookers in UK are powered by an amp rating of 13 amps. This is crucial since ovens draw substantial current, while the standard plug sockets have a rating of 10 amps.

In general, new appliances should be fitted with a plug at the point-of-sale. This is to ensure compliance with the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety Regulations) 1994. However, older appliances may not be connected to an outlet and that is where the problem arises.

The first thing to do when connecting a cooker with an existing plug socket is to check that the fuse rating in the fuse box is similar to the rating of the plug. This is crucial because an incorrectly-sized fuse can be dangerous.

It is also recommended to check that the fuse is seated in the cartridge and there isn't any excessive movement within it. The next step is to prepare the flex that will be used. Take off the sheathing and reveal the three insulated conductors. Next nick the sheathing at the entry point to the plug (beyond the cord grip) with a utility knife, without piercing the individual conductors that are insulated. The nick should be large enough that the sheathing can split and then expand when it is pulled back to reveal the cable beneath. Cut off the excess sheathing, leaving about 40mm beyond the flex.

The flex should be positioned over the plug, with the earth terminal on top and the neutral and live terminals on the bottom. The sheathing around each pin is removed using coloured conductors as a guide. The internal cable is then fixed to the terminal using the cord grip. If the plug has an attached cord clamp that is screw-type, unwind it and then pull the insulation back to reveal the copper wires. Connect each wire insulated to the correct terminal using the channel inside the plug. Start with the earth conductor first, then the neutral and finally the live.

What is the maximum draw of a 13 amp plug?

The maximum current draw for a 13amp plug at 230volts is 3kw. This is a significant amount of power, but the standard fuse that comes with a UK plug will not fail until the cable is at a risky temperature. It is essential to be aware of the amount of power you're using in your kitchen as an unfit plug or socket could cause an accident.

The fuse in plugtops is ceramic, around 25mm long and rated for 240V mains. They will be marked with the BS kitemark or similar mark on the side and contain sand. There are cheaper plastic or glass alternatives but they should not be used with a live plug or else you could blow up the fuse and possibly get electrocuted!

In the UK, most dual fuel range cookers are wired. They cannot be plugged directly into a wall outlet. They are typically connected to a dedicated cooker ring circuit, which is only suitable for appliances that draw up to 20 amps.

You can check the ring circuit in your home by checking the fuse box, or by speaking to a local electrician. Ask them if the sockets are on the same ring or if they're separate. They should also be able tell you if there's an individual circuit that powers your oven.

What is the maximum draw of the switch on a cooker?

There is a lot of confusion about what the maximum current draw of a cooker switch is. The majority of cookers are hard-wired and connected to a dedicated oven-ring circuit and not a standard socket. This is due to the fact that they usually consume more than 20 amps when the gas hob and electric oven are being used.

So, you won't find a dual range cooker with a fuel source that can be connected to a standard socket as it could pose a serious fire risk and would be in violation of electrical regulations. A licensed electrician will install any new electrics to an appliance in the kitchen and ensure that the load (both the oven and hob) does not exceed the supply capability of that circuit.

Dual fuel range cookers mix the responsiveness of a gas stove and the precision and precision of an electric oven. They are therefore popular with both chefs and home cooks. Dual cookers with fuel ranges are ideal for trying out different cooking techniques, including searing or charcoaling.

When buying a new cooktop, you need to consider several factors, including size, functionality and cost. You will also need a gas connection in your home for the appliance. If you're not sure, it's best to get an Gas Safe engineer inspect your home prior to installing.

You will need an electric connection to your home. A plumber might be required to connect it for you. Depending on your home you'll also need to make sure that you have a dedicated cooker ring circuit in place and signed off by a qualified electrician.
